Positano was one of my favourite European destinations because it has great nightlife, the most picturesque town, delicious fresh food, and distinctive beaches. Although our first morning involved a lost passport and many missed buses, we committed to turning our luck around and instantly the fun began.
A hot and tiring day of travelling called for an afternoon swim at Fornillo beach, but after soaking up the sun for a while a storm came in and suddenly, we found ourselves diving into the warm ocean with three fellow Portuguese travellers, laughing and talking in the rain together while everyone else around us ran for cover.
Naturally, our mid-storm chatter led to drinks with our new friends that night on the beach, and just like that our first day in Positano formed a core memory for Mia, Ellen, and me.
The following day was my 22nd Birthday and to celebrate, we checked into the luxurious Mariana Hotel.
After spending the day in hotel robes, tanning at the private beach along Marina Grande, and drinking cocktails, we accepted an invite to “Music on the Rocks” that night by an Italian traveller we had met at the bus stop earlier that day.
We were in awe as we arrived at the club situated in a beautiful cave. Together, we danced until the early morning and ended the night running into the main beach in Positano fully clothed in our silk dresses. A birthday to remember.
