Our Story
Founded in Capri on the 22.8.22.
Karina, the photographer and founder of Kamalia Studio, left Melbourne to experience an entire four months of European summer with the locals of Greece, London, Croatia, Italy, the South of France, Spain and Portugal.
She continues to travel her own country Australia and further destinations to grow the Kamalia collection.
It had long been a dream to travel through Europe with vague plans with the film camera her father had regifted to her from his own 21st birthday and a new digital camera her mother bought her for her 21st. The thought of her first solo trip being completely alone was daunting, but she did not know anyone going for that amount of time or to those places, so she felt she had no choice.
In the days after Karina had discussed the dilemma with her closest circles, her best friend sent her a Tik Tok tagged with "Australian girls travelling to Europe in 2022". The post was by Mia who had tagged her best friend Ellen. Thinking that she might as well ask what their plans were, Karina reached out to Ellen and Mia. They met for dinner three days later and by the end of the night had booked their first trip to Byron Bay. They quickly realised how easy travelling together was and locked in spending 3 months of their Europe trip together. Although Mia and Ellen were strangers to Karina almost a year ago, they are now two of Karina’s closest friends and are considered lifelong collaborators with Kamalia Studio. Kamalia Studio would not be here today without Mia and Ellen, and their contribution to our creative vision is so appreciated.
Ellen and Mia are graciously featured in many of Karina’s photographs and represent friendship, trust, and adventure that Karina portrays in her work.
This project was named by the trio after they spotted a super yacht in Capri named Kamalia. They instantly connected with the name Kamalia, as it is a soft blend of their names and was similar to a town they stayed at in Crete that holds many golden memories.
Every collection released will come from a limited number of pieces and be custom-made as Kamalia Studio wants to preserve the unique story behind each photo. The images drop in collections grouped by places Karina travelled.
